There are over 40 different breeds, each with its own unique abilities and attributes. Unfortunately for your citizens, you can’t have all 40 breeds in one Hungry Dragon game! This causes hardships when the player may want a breed that they don’t have access to because of an earlier choice they made. The breeds are also sorted by the element, which is pretty much a make-or-break factor when breeding dragons. What I propose is a way to have all the breeds in the game without restricting the player from any of them, and allow players to choose their own breeds with ease!
The trick to getting around this problem is knowing which breed combinations produce which dragons.
The next step is seeing which breeds can be unlocked with each starting dragon type. To save time and space, I will only show the unlocks for the first 4 types (there are only 8 variations for each starting breed).
Most of us know which breeds are associated with each elemental type, but what if there was a way to avoid these restrictions altogether? What if you could have any breed regardless of the dragon’s element? My solution lies in utilizing both tables together to create 6 “Patterns” – one for each starting elemental type.
Luckily, the patterns for each elemental type are symmetrical to one another (with some slight variation).
Pattern 1:
A + Fire = Fire
B + Water = Water
Pattern 2:
C + Earth = Earth
D + Air = Air
… and so on. Some Dragons do not directly follow the same pattern as their corresponding element, but all of these breeds can still be unlocked with a similar build. When using this method, you will always need at least one fire-element dragon in order to unlock any breed by starting with Fire. This is due to the fact that no other breed can directly produce a Fire Dragon. This does add an extra step when trying to obtain more than one fire breed, but it is still doable.
To make things easier for you (and myself), I made the following cheat sheet to show how to get each breed for every starting dragon element given their corresponding pattern. This can also be found in this file, along with the patterns themselves.
Starting Elemental Type Cheat Sheet It should be noted that when using these patterns, always start with your desired elemental type when trying to unlock a breed. You cannot start with an earth-element dragon and try to unlock Breezy Dragon because Fire+Earth can only produce Plant Dragons! Even though it may seem like you’re getting blocked out of breeds early on, keep up the effort and give yourself enough time to find all 40 breeds! Without further ado…
Pattern 1: Fire
Fire + Plant = Breezy + Sky = Sky Dragon
Fire + Earth = Volcano + Platinum = Gemstone Dragon
Fire + Metal = Flashwing + Gold = Golden Dragon
Fire + Water = Oceanus + Silvermist = Moonbeam Dragon
Fire + Air = Sunflowr+ Azure or Celesstia= Blazing Gale or Celestial Dragon
All elemental types start with the starter breed of their corresponding type. This means a fire dragon would start off as a flame, an earth dragon as a rock, and so on. Whatever breed you started with is also the breed you must use to unlock other breeds. For example, to get Gemstone Dragon, start with Volcano + Rock = Gemstone.
Pattern 2: Water
Water + Plant = Swamp + Seaweed = Tidal Dragon
Water + Earth = Mud + Coral = Coralax Dragon
Water+ Metal = Quicksilver-+ Silvermist= Temporal Dragon
Water + Air = Oceanus+ Azure or Celesstia= Celestial Dragon (Azure) or Blazing Gale (Celestia)
All elemental types start with the starter breed of their corresponding type. This means a water dragon would start off as a seahorse, an earth dragon as a rock, and so on. Whatever breed you started with is also the breed you must use to unlock other breeds. For example, to get Celestial Dragon, start with Oceanus + Coral = Celestial.
Pattern 3: Earth
Earth + Plant = Treehugger + Leafy = Willow Dragon
Earth + Fire= Volcano+ Flame (Red/Orange/Yellow/etc.)= Lava Dragon
Earth+ Air = Fog + Breezy = Chlorobolt or Thundersnow
All elemental types start with the starter breed of their corresponding type. This means an earth dragon would start off as a rock, a fire dragon as a flame, and so on. Whatever breed you started with is also the breed you must use to unlock other breeds. For example, to get Chlorobolt Dragon, start with Fog + Flame = Chlorobolt.
Pattern 4: Metal
Metal + Plant = Tinsel + Mistletoe = Tinsel Dragon
Metal + Earth= Quicksilver+ Stone (Grey/Black/White/etc.)= Iron Dragon
Metal + Air = Flashwing+ Breezy = Chlorobolt or Thundersnow
All elemental types start with the starter breed of their corresponding type. This means a metal dragon would start off as a gold/silver/etc., an earth dragon as a rock, and so on. Whatever breed you started with is also the breed you must use to unlock other breeds. For example, to get Iron Dragon, start with Quicksilver + Stone = Iron.
Pattern 5: Plant
Plant + Fire= Treehugger+ Flame (Red/Orange/Yellow/etc.)= Lava Dragon
Plant + Metal = Tinsel+ Gold = Golden Dragon
Plant + Water = Leafy+ Silvermist = Moonbeam Dragon
All elemental types start with the starter breed of their corresponding type. This means a plant dragon would start off as a seahorse, a metal dragon as a gold/silver/etc., and so on. Whatever breed you started with is also the breed you must use to unlock other breeds. For example, to get Golden Dragon, start with Tinsel + Gold = Golden.
Pattern 6: Air
Air + Fire = Flicker+ Flame (Red/Orange/Yellow/etc.) = Lava Dragon
Air + Metal= Flashwing+ Silvermist = Moonbeam Dragon
Air + Water= Breezy+ Oceanus= Celestial Dragon (Azure)
All elemental types start with the starter breed of their corresponding type. This means an air dragon would start off as a faerie, a metal dragon as a gold/silver/etc., and so on. Whatever breed you started with is also the breed you must use to unlock other breeds. For example, to get Celestial Dragon (Azure), start with Breezy + Oceanus = Celestial (Azure).
Pattern 7: Swamp
Swamp + Fire= Treehugger+ Flame (Red/Orange/Yellow/etc.)= Lava Dragon or Flicker
Swamp + Metal = Quicksilver+ Silvermist = Moonbeam Dragon
Swamp + Plant = Tinsel+ Mistletoe = Tinsel Dragon
All elemental types start with the starter breed of their corresponding type. This means a swamp dragon would start off as a seahorse, and metal and plant dragons in any other fashion, and so on. Whatever breed you started with is also the breed you must use to unlock other breeds. For example, to get Tinsel Dragon, start with Tinsel + Mistletoe = Tinsel.
Pattern 8: Lightning/Storm/Thunder
Storm + Plant= Treehugger+ Mistletoe = Tinsel Dragon
Storm + Metal= Flashwing+ Silvermist = Moonbeam Dragon
Storm + Earth= Quicksilver+ Stone (Grey/Black/White/etc.)= Iron Dragon
Thunder or Thunderstorm + Water = Breezy+ Oceanus= Celestial Dragon (Azure)
All elemental types start with the starter breed of their corresponding type. This means a storm dragon would start off as a faerie, a metal dragon as a gold/silver/etc., and so on. Whatever breed you started with is also the breed you must use to unlock other breeds. For example, to get Celestial Dragon (Azure), start with Breezy + Oceanus = Celestial (Azure).
